Dear Senior High Parents: Your student should have noticed a little extra time to get to class this semester. The new bell schedules (On back) reflect the additional time (4 minutes to five) between periods. They have asked for this to alleviate the 'concern' that we lack the transfer time and I have listened.
Beginning Monday, January 28, the new tardy procedural practice will go into effect. We were waiting until Monday so that the students may become accustomed to the new time between periods and so that you (parents) may be informed via e-mail (SCAT), our web site, and this letter of the tardy expectations.
This practice will reflect the wishes of the School Advisory Committee (SAC) and administration to be proactive to reduce the tardies to classes and scurry the students in the hallways. We will do our best to be firm, fair and consistent. We need your help with this procedure by reinforcing with your student that they be on time to class and abiding by the expectation. The following flow chart demonstrates the new tardy procedural protocols:Level 1) 3 tardies = 1/2 Detention (15 minutes) Level 2) 4 tardies = Full Detention (30 minutes) Level 3) 5 tardies = Full Detention + 15 Minutes School-wide (Community) Service Level 4) 6 tardies = 2-Hour Tyger Time + 30 Minutes School-wide (Community) Service Level 5) 7 tardies = 4-Hour Tyger Time + 30 Minutes School-Wide (Community) ServiceLevel 6) 8 - 12 tardies = I-PASS + 60 Minutes School-Wide (Community) Service for each occurrence. Level 7) 13+ tardies to one class, parent conference with administrator or representative and OSS before returning to MSHS. Parents, please also be aware that class credit will be “withheld” until community service time is made up. This means they must make up their time for being tardy before their grades are released.
As most of you know, this will not have an effect on your child. But, we will not allow 10% or less of the students here to disrupt the classes of the 90% that want to be here and do the right thing.
As always, I am here to speak with you if you have problems with this or any situation at Mansfield Senior High School. I want your student’s experience here to be safe, fun and worthwhile. If you child wants to learn, they’ll have no problems with school. If they want to cause chaos and disrupt those that want to learn, I will be seeking them out. I have told them, “you respect people’s time by being on time.” With your continued help, we will “Restore the Roar.”
