Their
costumes are ready. Their eyes are filled with visions of sweet treats. Late
Thursday afternoon, hundreds of them will begin to descend on Mansfield Senior
High School. All manner of Halloween creatures – some scary, some loveable – will wander the main hallways during the annual Safe Trick or Treat, sponsored by Senior High’s Ohio Cardinal Conference leadership team.
Doors will
be open from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
“We ask families to donate a non-perishable food item or make a $1 donation at the door,” said Becky Cashell, OCC leadership adviser. “All donations will go to a local food bank.”
There’s something new this year. In addition to the trick-or-treat stations set up by 18 clubs and organizations, the Performing Arts department of Career Tech will stage “haunted hallways in the auditorium.”
Apparently, it doesn’t have to be dark outside to be scared inside.
“Safe Trick or Treat is a community service project of our OCC Leadership team,” Cashell said. “It’s a fun event for our families during daylight hours.”
OCC
Leadership strives to develop students to be positive leaders while
implementing initiatives to make their school a better place.
In addition to OCC Leadership and Performing Arts, participants in Safe Trick or Treat will include Mansfield Spanish Immersion, the Mansfield School Employees Association, National Honor Society, CACY, art academy after-school club, freshman academy, junior class officers, Black Culture Club, freshman advisory, drama club, gamers club, Career Tech, leadership classes at school, health tech, life club, Class of 2021, and the Ohio Air National Guard.
