Tonight's school events will go on as scheduled

      A Christmas concert at Senior High and athletic events will go on as scheduled Thursday evening, Superintendent Brian Garverick said.

      Snow Thursday morning forced the closing of schools. Sherman Elementary School third-graders’ scheduled holiday party at Dayspring Assisted Living has been rescheduled to Monday.

      The Mansfield Senior High/Mansfield Middle School band and orchestra concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

      The girls varsity basketball team will meet West Holmes at 7:30 p.m. in Pete Henry Gym. The freshman boys basketball squad will travel to West Holmes.

      The Senior High Christmas Cabaret will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the commons. Reservations are required through vocal music director Dirk Eachus.

      The Tyger varsity basketball team will have their season home opener at 1 p.m. Saturday against West Holmes. The junior varsity will pay at 11:30 a.m.

      One more winter concert is scheduled next week. Springmill pre-kindergarten students will sing at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, 890 W. Fourth St.

      A reminder: Winter break has been extended by one day to allow for staff professional development. Students’ last day will be Dec. 19 and they will not return to classes until Jan. 4.

      The second-quarter grading period will end Dec. 20.
