Dina Davis resigns seat on board of education

Dina Davis has announced her resignation, effective June 8, from the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education “solely for the reason that I can spend more time with my family.”

“My father died a year and a half ago and since then I have struggled to balance my time with my daily full time job, time with my family, time taking care of my mother out of town and time spent serving as the vice president of the board of education,” she said.

Elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2013, Mrs. Davis has served 6 ½ years on the board, the last 2 ½ as vice president.

“Sometimes people don’t realize all of the hours a board member spends attending board meetings, school open houses, parent-teacher conferences, plays, sporting events and other functions. It requires hours of dedication and finding the balance to make the best decisions for an entire district,” she said.

“I believe 100 percent in this school district. I am proud to say that my children graduated from the Mansfield City Schools. One of the best and most fulfilling parts of my job as a board member was to be able to attend graduations and have the extreme honor to individually shake each graduate’s hand.”

In her letter of resignation, Mrs. Davis expressed her thanks to teachers and support staff “for your hard work and professionalism.”

“You, the staff, are what make this district strong. Your hard work and countless hours of dedication can be seen in generations of graduates who have passed through our schools’ hallways,” she said. “The principals have worked hard as a team to develop strategies and provide professional development for teachers. They have been successful in finding innovative ways to improve our children’s education.”

Mrs. Davis thanked Superintendent Brian Garverick and Treasurer Robert Kuehnle for their “knowledge and professionalism as the district’s public voice” and their “diligence in the process to get us out of fiscal emergency.” She expressed appreciation to her fellow board members for their dedication to the district.

“It has been an extreme pleasure serving on the board. I will continue to support, volunteer and advocate for our students and staff, just as I did before being elected to the board,” she said.
