A 15-foot leaping tiger – make that a TY tiger -- will greet Mansfield Senior High football fans at Arlin Field when the season opens in August.
Local artist Sarah Galat is painting the tiger on the west side of the maintenance building facing the east end of the field. She is working from a conceptual drawing by Kevin Haring, senior designer and founder of Splashmakers LLC in Mansfield.
“I started last Tuesday and I think that I will be able to finish this week,” said Galat, who was applying a second coat on Monday. “I’ve been working a few hours each day.”
Galat’s artistic talents are well known locally. A former teacher at the Mansfield Art Center and Discovery School, she did some of the painting in the Adventure Gallery at Springmill Learning Center. Her work also graces the basement of the Ontario Christian Fellowship church.
