Board clears the way for appointment of 7-12 campus principal
Leadership at Mansfield Senior High and Mansfield Middle School will change for the 2018-2019 school year with the appointment of a grades 7-12 campus principal.

That position could be filled as soon as the board of education’s next meeting on June 19. Plans also are underway to name an assistant principal at each grade level.

The board of education acted Tuesday to clear the way for appointing the 7-12 campus principal.

“To make it clear, our purpose today is to distinguish between campus director, which we did not fill, and campus principal,” said board president Judy Forney.

At Forney’s request, Superintendent Brian Garverick explained that the two primary differences between the two job descriptions are that the 7-12 principal will not provide executive leadership for the Career Tech Education program but will be responsible for conducting safety drills.

The 7-12 principal also will be charged with creating a unified campus, a requirement that was not part of the campus director description, attending community events and being “highly visible.” The lengthy job description also includes directing school improvement, budgeting and financial affairs and parent involvement.

Garverick said a committee of district personnel and community residents has begun interviewing 7-12 principal candidates.

The board then approved two separate resolutions, the first to formally abolish the campus director position and the second to approve the 7-12 campus principal job description.

Both passed on 4-0 votes by Forney, Sheryl Weber, Gary Feagin and Chris Elswick. Renda Cline was absent.
