The
administrative staff at Mansfield Senior High and Mansfield Middle School

Folson, Ph.D, newly appointed grades 7-12 principal and his assistant
principals will meet the community during two open sessions next week at
Mansfield Senior High School.
“It will be an opportunity to meet everyone and build relationships with parents and the community,” Dr. Folson said. “All are welcome.”
Sessions in
the Joann Dutton Community Room are set for 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 30,
and 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31.
“We want to give everyone the opportunity to ask questions and put their minds at ease about the new administrative structure at the middle school and high school,” Dr. Folson said. “All of our assistant principals will be there.”
Dr. Folson
received a two-year contract on a unanimous vote of the board of education on
July 19.
He served as
assistant principal of Thomas Worthington High School last year. Previously, he
was principal of Mount Healthy Junior/Senior High School near Cincinnati
2015-2017; middle school principal in the Groveport-Madison Local Schools
2013-2015; middle school assistant principal in the Pickerington Local Schools
2011-2013, and middle school assistant principal in the Springfield City
Schools 2010-2011.
Dr. Folson
began his career in education as an eighth-grade science teacher at
Pickerington from 2007 to 2010.
Assistant
principals for the coming year include:
Grade 7 – Eric Butler, comes to Mansfield from St. Gabriel School in Concord, Ohio, where he taught seventh-grade world history and eighth-grade American history since 2012. He received a bachelor degree in integrated social studies/secondary education and a master in educational administration, both from Cleveland State University.
Grade 8 – Jessica Shaffner was a seventh-grade science teacher in the Madison Local Schools since 2005, where she also taught ninth-grade honors science from 2005 to 2008. A member of Madison’s district leadership team, she also served as an interim principal as needed
Shaffner
received a bachelor of science degree in middle school education and a bachelor
of art in criminology, both from The Ohio State University. She earned a master
of education from OSU and a master of education administration from Ashland
University.
Grade 9 – Andrew Schiefer returns for his second year as principal of the freshman academy.
Grade 10 – James Kim served as director of bands at Highland High School and Highland Middle School, Marengo, Ohio, since 2015. He received a bachelor of music from The Ohio State University and a master of education-educational leadership from the University of Cincinnati.
Butler, Shaffner and Kim were hired on July 12.
Grades 11 and 12 – Robert McQuate is now assistant principal for juniors and seniors, moving from his previous role as middle school principal.
