Hi, my name is Susan Johnson. I have been with Mansfield City Schools for 20 years. I am currently in my 28th year of teaching. I previously taught 8 years in Houston, Texas after graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1989.

I have taught 1st-6th grade, Title 1 and served as Literacy Coach at Malabar for 6 years. My time has been spent at Prospect, Hedges, and now Malabar. I am currently a 4th grade Language Arts instructor.

My husband and I have 2 children of our own. Our daughter, Brooke, just graduated from Kent State University. Our son, Blake, just completed his first year at Cleveland State University. In my free time I enjoy reading, hiking, travelling and spending time with family.

Ms. Steiner

Math- Ms. Steiner

Hello Tyger Families!  My name is Beth Steiner and I teach 4th grade Math and Science here at Malabar Intermediate School.  I went to school in Mansfield and graduated from Malabar HS in 1978.

I then attended  Bowling Green State University and earned my degree in 1982.  I went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Ashland University in 1995.  My first five years out of college I taught 3rd grade in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  I moved back to Mansfield and have been teaching in the Mansfield City Schools ever since.  I just completed my 37th year !!!

I have taught 4th and 5th grade for a VERY long time.  The most rewarding thing about it all is seeing my former students all over Mansfield being successful, productive citizens of our community.  I love that.  The other cool thing is that I have taught a lot of their children as well.

Mrs. Overholt

Science and Social Studies- Mrs. Overholt

My name is Sandy Overholt and I teach 4th grade Math, Science and Social Studies at Malabar.  I grew up in Fredericktown and attended The Ohio State University in Mansfield where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in K-8 Education. I taught 4 years at Discovery School (here in Mansfield) and the past 21 years for Mansfield City Schools.

I live in Mansfield and have two children, Shannon (who teaches at Ashland County Career Center) and Nathan (who works for the Knox County Board of Health). I have four grandchildren, Chase, Zoe, Ellie and Easton. In my spare time I love to travel (my favorite places so far have been Africa, Belize and Alaska!) I love dogs and following the Iditarod! I also love to make pottery with my friend Don Snyder for Snyder Dragonfly Pottery.

Mrs. Russell

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Russell. I am a fourth grade Intervention Specialist. I have been teaching for 25 years, 21 of those years with Mansfield City. I have taught K-6 in special education with 3-6 grades being my favorite.  I grew up in Mansfield and attended Mansfield schools until moving and graduated in 1988 from Madison.  My father was a teacher of 35 years with Mansfield (Mr. Darling).  I attended Eastern Michigan and then Bowling Green and received my Bachelors Degree in Speech Communication Disorders. I went back to school to get my Bachelor's Plus degree in Special Education and my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction both from Ashland University.

I am married and have one daughter who just graduated from Madison and will be going to college for Forensic Science. We have one dog Murphy and a fish named George.  I enjoy spending time with family and friends and love to be outdoors. We like to spend time on our boat in the summer as a family. I also like walking, gardening, reading and attending my daughter's sporting events. I like to travel and especially enjoy going to the beach.  I love my job working with kids and volunteering at church teaching and helping with Vacation Bible School.  I love our TY tygers!!
