Fine Arts Course Offerings

Advanced Placement Art:0081
Grades: 11,12
Credit: .5 Weighted Factor: 1.5
Prerequisite: Advanced Drawing , Painting plus one additional art course

This art course is designed for the highly motivated, exceptional art student who is art school bound or interested in an art related field. This course requires serious time commitments, as students will be compiling an art portfolio which best exemplifies his/her aesthetic skill and understanding.

Ceramics Studio I: 0050
Grades: 9,10,11,12
Credit:.5 Weight Factor: 1.5
Prerequisite: Drawing I
 
This course provides student with an in-depth study of the hand-building and glazing processes and experiences in working with terra cotta (earthenware) and stoneware clays. The course will include historical/cultural reference to enhance artistic approach and personal growth. 

Ceramics Studio II: 0055
Grades: 10,11,12
Credit:.5 Weight Factor:1.5
Prerequisite: Ceramics I
 
This course is designed for the highly motivated student who wants to build upon the concepts and procedures developed in Ceramics I. Further Exploration of traditional as well as non- traditional hand-built and wheel thrown pottery will be the focus. Students will investigate historical and artistic references as well as discover ideas and demonstrate craftsmanship through self- expression and reflection. 
 
Honors Ceramics:0056
Grades: 11, 12
Credit:.5 Weight Factor: 1.5
Prerequisite: Must pass Ceramics II with a B average
 
This course is only offered to students who are proficient at wheel thrown pottery techniques, and which to further develop their craft. This course will focus on ceramist’s of the arts and crafts movement, as well as 20thcentury perspectives. Students will be expected to produce a large body of work cohesive in vision and form. Intermixing of wheel throwing and sculptural techniques will be included.
