Advanced Dramatic Arts, 0200

Prerequisite: Sophomore status and minimum grade average of “B” in Dramatic Arts I

Advanced Dramatic Arts will focus on developing advanced skills for the high school level in all areas of applied and theoretical drama/theatre. These areas include: acting, directing, play production (dramatic), writing, film. Lessons and activities throughout the semester will involve students in specific learning strategies that will ensure development in these areas. Students will be required to choose 1 area of emphasis or expertise that will culminate in a final semester project. This project should reflect their development as an advanced drama student. The course will also help prepare students to make a transition to college level or employment in the field.

Prerequisite: Sophomore status

Dramatic Arts I is an introduction to the study of all areas of drama and theatre. These areas include: acting, directing, play production (technical and dramatic), written drama, and film. Lessons and activities throughout the semester will involve students in exercises that will acquaint them with the introductory study of drama. Dramatic Arts I will prepare students for the more advanced level course, Advanced Dramatic Arts.

Public Speaking and Communication, 0300

Prerequisite: English 9

This is a course of study designed to instruct, apply, and assist students in the process of speech, communication, and public speaking for vocations or careers. Students will learn the process of speech writing, preparation, rehearsal, and performance. Each project will require speaking before a live audience, be it either in the classroom or in the public domain. Required speeches will include: informative, persuasive, creative, special occasion, debate, oral interpretation, and theatrical. Daily exercises and assignments will include practice for interviewing, formal speaking, the exploration of non-verbal communication, and the physicality of speaking. Discussions and applications will also include interpersonal, intra-personal, and group communication.
