Imagination Library provides free books to Ohio’s young children

Through a partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library wants every kindergartener to begin school with 60 books in his or her home. Parents can enroll children from birth to age 5 in the program to receive a new book every month. Early access to books gives children a greater chance of success when they start kindergarten. Developing literacy begins at birth. By age 3, a child’s brain already is 80 percent developed, and by the time a child enters kindergarten, he or she must know thousands of words in order to succeed in the classroom. One of the best ways to ensure children are armed with the knowledge they need to succeed is by reading aloud to them and giving them access to books. Learn more about this program on the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library website.
