United Way Award

MCS wins the Gopher Award for largest increase in fundraising

Every year, the staff at Mansfield City Schools participate in the United Way giving campaign. The district benefits greatly from this campaign through the multiple programs that United Way of Richland County supports, many of which provide services to MCS students and their families. Last year, the staff raised  $9,754.40. This was the largest increase in funding from the previous year for all school districts in Richland County. This led to MCS being the recipient of the Gopher Award. Last week Stan Jefferson, Superintendent, accepted the award alongside Dr. Holly Christie, Director of Student Support.

The fundraising efforts were led by staff across the district who consistently invest in the needs of their students. Woodland Elementary stood out with 100 percent of their staff contributing to the fundraising campaign.

“The MCS staff are paying it forward,” Dr. Christie said. “This giving nature is a big part of who MCS is.”

This year’s campaign kicked off on November 3 and continues through the holiday season. Again, all staff across all buildings in the district will be invited to participate. The Tyger pride resonates deeply with the Mansfield community. The giving campaign inserts a friendly competition among buildings who all have the same goal in mind.

Mansfield City Schools is increasing their goal this year and aiming to collect $10,000. They are also working to stay in the top 25 of businesses in Richland County who participate in this United Way fundraising campaign. Last year, MCS was 21st in Richland county.
