Teachers and students in touch, online or through district email

Jennifer Johnson, top right, healthcare technologies instructor in Mansfield Senior High’s Career Tech program, talks with some of her students online.

Mansfield City Schools teachers are staying in touch with students while schools are closed because of the coronavirus threat.

Staff are not conducting classes but are answering questions and offering encouragement – either online or through email -- about lesson packets students are using at home.

District email addresses for all teachers are accessible via the staff directory on each school’s web page at tygerpride.com.

Superintendent Stan Jefferson expressed appreciation for teachers’ efforts to be in touch with students.

“Our administrators worked closely with the Mansfield School Employees Association to create the at-home study packets. It’s not the same as face-to-face classroom instruction, but the packets can provide effective learning,” he said.

Jefferson noted that Good Friday and the district’s scheduled spring break, April 13-17, are at hand.

“Teachers may not be available during this time. While the COVID-19 may have forced the cancellation of travel plans, many of our staff will use the week for at-home family activities and relaxation,” he said.

Because of spring break, the second batch of students’ at-home study packets contain lessons through April 24.

“Our teachers will create a third lesson packet for the week of April 26 and beyond, if the governor extends his May 1 school closing for the remainder of the year,” Jefferson said.

“We will deal with that when the time comes. In the meantime, I urge all students and their families to stay safe and do their best to complete lesson assignments.”
