Dewayne Price, a security specialist at Mansfield Senior High, handed out sack lunches and breakfasts on June 1, the final day of the district’s food distribution program. Mansfield
City Schools distributed a combined 34,906 sack lunches and breakfasts for
students at three locations while schools were closed from March 18 to June 1.
Food service
manager Lauren Moran said the totals were almost identical: 17,494 lunches and
17,412 breakfasts.
Volunteers
provided drive-up meal distributions from 12 to 1 p.m. each weekday at
Mansfield Senior High, Malabar Intermediate School and Springmill STEM
Elementary. The nutritionally balanced meals were packaged by food service
staff at Senior High and shipped in coolers to the other two locations.
The largest
volume was at Senior High where 12,647 lunches and 12,564 breakfasts were
distributed during the nearly 11 weeks.
Malabar’s totals were identical: 4,251 lunches, 4,251 breakfasts.
Springmill
STEM was added as a distribution site soon after the program started. Totals
there were 596 lunches and 597 breakfasts.
While the district meal distribution was required to end on June 1, which would have been students’ final day in school, summer meal programs for school-age children are underway at two other locations.
