Barrister staff brightens Christmas for nine MCS children

Three families in the Mansfield City Schools district, including nine children, will have a brighter Christmas, thanks to the generosity of Barrister Title Group employees.

This is the second year that that staff of the Mansfield firm has   provided holiday assistance through the district’s Student Achievement through Family Engagement (SAFE) office, which aids homeless students.

Phil Mitchell, SAFE coordinator, said this month’s gifts will benefit three families “in housing transition.”

“Barrister called and said they wanted to help again this year,” Mitchell said. “They asked that we specify clothing sizes and provide the children’s wish lists for toys. Last week they delivered several boxes of wrapped presents.”

Lea Ann Sexton, Barrister’s director of operations and marketing, said her office decided to repeat the project immediately after last year’s gifts were delivered.

“We have done many Christmas projects over the years, but working with the SAFE program is something that has touched all of our hearts,” she said. “The employees at Barrister spent a lot of time selecting and wrapping gifts and trying to make sure each child will be happy on Christmas morning.

“Several of us have had family members donate to our cause. One of our employees had a family meeting where they decided to spend less on their own family Christmas so that they could donate that money to this project.”

This year’s donation was so large that it took two cars to deliver all of the packages to MCS’s Raemelton administration building.

“The generosity of Barrister’s employees is very much appreciated. It will mean so much to the children who receive these gifts,” Mitchell said.

Sexton said her office’s objective was simple.

“Christmas is for kids,” she said, “and those of us at Barrister do what we can to make Christmas a little brighter for kids in our community.”
