Eighth-grader Mahogany Johnson prepares to work on a painting at her station on the sidewalk during Downtown Mansfield’s Shop Hop. Nine Mansfield Middle School art students did an “awesome job” Friday evening as they created live art to the delight of downtown Shop Hop visitors.
“It was great to see the kinds of art the kids were creating,” said Kayla Griggs, a marketing assistant with Downtown Mansfield Inc. “People really enjoyed watching them work.”
Art teacher Heather Marks called her students’ participation in Shop Hop from 5:30 to 7 p.m. “a wonderful community-building event.”
“I gave the kids canvases and provided some helpful assistance at the various locations where they were working,” Marks said. “Each student created at least two paintings. It was a good opportunity for them to work in public.”
The student
artists included Christopher Wicker, Breeasia Cains, Adrianna Bautz, Kara
Mason, Lily Kime, Mahogany Johnson, Timbrie Justice, Angelina Harper and Gia
Trombetta.
The kids
ended their evening with pizza in the studio of Element of Art on North Main
Street.
“We really enjoyed having the middle school students as part of Shop Hop,” Griggs said. “They did an awesome job.”
