Garverick changes roles; search for new superintendent to begin

The Mansfield City Schools Board of Education will initiate a search for a new superintendent while current superintendent Brian Garverick prepares to assume responsibility for overseeing the district’s reopened alternative school.

President Renda Cline made the announcement after the board returned from an executive session during their regular monthly meeting.

“An agreement has been reached which allows Mr. Garverick the ability to continue to work in the district and permits the board to pursue hiring another superintendent. Both parties believe this transition is in the best interests of both the district and Mr. Garverick,” Ms. Cline said.

Effective Aug. 1 Garverick will begin a four-year contract as director of alternative programming. Details about reopening of the alternative school have not been announced.

Garverick was appointed superintendent on Aug. 1, 2013. A former assistant principal at Mansfield Senior High School and principal of the district’s alternative school, he served four years as Senior High principal before being named superintendent.

Gerverick has served 28 years in Mansfield City Schools. A graduate of Mansfield Senior High and Ashland University, he holds a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Dayton.

“We are fortunate to have leaders like Brian be a part of our district for nearly all his career,” Ms. Cline said, “and we are excited to have him relaunch the alternative program that was very successful under his tenure to address the unique needs of our students.

“As we proceed with structuring our staffing decisions around the needs of our students, we will keep all stakeholders informed. Our commitment to our students and community is strong and we are excited to continue progress together,” she said.
