Black Culture Club plans dinner, voting program on Wednesday

Adviser Ed Golden and Black Culture Club member Ben Miller look over the program for the Feb. 20 “Dine & Convo, Your Vote Matters.”

The importance of voting will be the focus of a dinner and convocation on Feb. 20, sponsored by the Black Culture Club at Mansfield Senior High.

Chef Ed Golden, the club adviser, said the program will begin at 5 p.m. with an Italian pasta dinner in the Cub Room featuring spaghetti, salad, bread and beverage. The cost will be $10 for an adult, $5 for a student.

Proceeds from the dinner will support Black Culture Club activities.

After dinner the program will resume in the auditorium, where guest speaker Jamie Johnson will discuss how voting impacts a community.

For dinner reservations, call Golden at 419-525-6369.

Golden also said Thursday the club has adopted a vision statement, which says:

“As the Mansfield Senior High School Black Culture Club, our mission is to engage, teach and promote knowledge of African-American culture and diversity to students and staff through educational programs, public dialogue, and continuous involvement in community and school events. The Black Culture Club meets weekly and provides a safe environment to share ideas and experiences and is open to all students. It is an invitation for all MSHS students to learn the African-American past, engage in the present to advance it, and dream of a future to expand it.”
