The Richland County Task Force on racism is conducting an 8 day "Community Equity Challenge" starting November 14 through November 21st. The objective is to have Richland County community members collectively learn and personally reflect on how they are influenced by race in various areas of everyday life. This challenge will provide participants the opportunity to receive daily emails or text messages providing links to videos, podcasts, and/or reading assignments exploring the impact of systemic racism in the following areas:
Day 1 -- Implicit bias and wealth gap
Day 2 -- Business
Day 3 -- Criminal Justice
Day 4 -- Education
Day 5 -- Employment
Day 6 -- Healthcare
Day 7 -- Housing
Day 8 -- Mental health
Whether it's intentional or not, racism lives in our lives, movements, and interactions. The presence of structural racism creates obstacles for people of color to cultivate social justice leadership. To create more space to confront this reality, the Richland Community Equity Challenge has been created. This journey facilitates candid peer-to-peer dialogue of issues surrounding race, power, privilege, and leadership within social justice movements.
When we create social justice spaces, we make room to ask each other questions like: What is our vision for anti-racist change in the world? How do we hold others accountable in ways that build relationships and communities? When we have these conversations together, we create the accountability that's essential for lasting change.
Be a part of our community dialogue about racism & discrimination where we share ways that people can become active in
dismantling racism and other forms of discrimination in their communities. #RichlandChallenge #NoRoomForRacism
