Altrusa 2Altrusa members Linda Williams and Sheryl Weber, also a board of education member, deliver sacks of toys and activities to the S.A.F.E. program at Mansfield City Schools.

Altrusa International of Mansfield, a longtime supporter of Mansfield City Schools, has prepared sacks of toys and summer activities for homeless and displaced children served by Mansfield City Schools’ S.A.F.E. program (Student Achievement through Family Engagement).

S.A.F.E. coordinator Phil Mitchel said Altrusa members prepared more than 70 sacks organized by children’s gender and grade in school. Items include Frisbees, footballs, baseballs and bats, Hot Wheels cars, sidewalk chalk and a variety of other activities.

The sacks will be distributed by the UMADAOP Prevention Program for Youth as part of its summer free breakfast and lunch program. More information about the food program, which will operate until Aug. 1, is available by calling 567-307-7299.

Before the start of school each year Altrusa provides thousands of pencils, crayons, notebooks, paper and other classroom supplies to Mansfield City Schools and other area districts.
