Participating in safety council benefits the district in several ways
Robert fullMansfield City Schools Treasurer Robert Kuehnle talks with Laura Smith and Stacy Harrington of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation at the Richland County Safety Council’s Health, Safety and Wellness Fair Thursday in Shelby.

Mansfield City Schools’ participation in the Richland County Safety Council will earn the district nearly $3,000 in rebates from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) for the fiscal year that ends June 30.

Treasurer Robert Kuehnle said the district’s membership in the safety council is important for several reasons.

“We are able to keep abreast of safety issues and updated information such as changes in Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance,” Kuehnle said. “We join other employers in our community to share ideas and best practices.

“Regular attendance at monthly safety council meetings also benefits our district financially. For FY19 which ends on June 30 we will earn a rebate of $2,995 on our annual BWC insurance premium of roughly $150,000.

Kuehnle attended the safety council’s Health, Safety and Wellness Fair Thursday at Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby. The event included workshops and dozens of vendor displays.

The Richland County Safety Council is one of 84 safety councils in Ohio co-sponsored by BWC. The local safety council’s mission is explained on its web site:

“For over 40 years, the Richland County Safety Council has helped organizations and businesses grow through quality programs that put people first. We’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to building long-term relationships with employers in our local community. We partner with the BWC and other organizations who help support us and provide safety awareness and education.”
