Two experienced educators were hired by the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education Tuesday to fill assistant principal roles.

Acting on the recommendation of Superintendent Stan Jefferson, the board approved the hiring of Amanda Mahon as Mansfield Senior High ninth-grade assistant principal and Tara Strang as assistant principal at Malabar Intermediate School.

“Amanda Mahon and Tara Strang complete our roster of administrators for the coming school year. I am confident both will contribute significantly to our goals of academic school reform and a conducive learning environment that is warm and caring,” Jefferson said.

Mahon comes to Mansfield City Schools from the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center where she served since January 2016 as director of education. Among her numerous responsibilities was the planning of professional development opportunities for 16 school districts and several non-public schools.

From Aug. 1, 2013 to December 2015, Mahon was principal of Plymouth High School. Prior to that role, she was a teacher at Shelby Senior High School for 11 years.

Mahon earned a bachelor’s degree in education and master’s in educational administration from Ashland University before completing superintendent’s licensure coursework at Ohio University.

Strang most recently served as an evaluation specialist in the NASA Office of Education in Cleveland where her duties included agency-wide program evaluation and educational research for the office’s STEM Engagement programming.

She has served on the adjunct faculty at Ashland University, teaching several courses in psychology. A former graduate researcher at The Ohio State University, she previously worked as a research associate at the Crane Center for Early Childhood Research & Policy in Columbus.

Strang has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Dartmouth College and a PhD in education from The Ohio State University.
