Picnic food, prizes at elementary cookouts

A spring tradition of cookouts at Mansfield City Schools’ elementary buildings, sponsored by the district’s food service department, will begin this week.

A lunchtime cookout is planned Thursday at the Spanish Immersion School, where Principal Gabe Costa has invited grandparents to attend.

The menu will be the same at all elementaries: hamburgers, baked beans, fresh fruit, fruit slushies and milk.

   Other cookout dates include:

May 12 – Sherman (indoor picnic)

   May 17 – Woodland

   May 19 – Prospect

Prizes will be awarded at each cookout, based on a random drawing from all students’ names. They include bicycles, basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs and jump ropes.

The prizes were acquired by food service manager Jane Fortman and assistant manager Lauren Ellsworth by using rebates earned from food service vendors during the year.
