Kudos for board president, Spanish Immersion

Renda Cline, president of the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education, and the district’s Spanish Immersion School will be honored in Columbus on March 11.

Ms. Cline will receive the Ohio School Boards Association’s Award of Achievement while the Spanish Immersion School will be recognized as an Ohio School of Promise.

Both awards will be presented during the spring conference of OSBA’s 14-county Central Region. Ms. Cline serves on the 23-member Central Region Executive Committee.

The Award of Achievement recognizes Ms. Cline’s commitment to training, leadership and statewide OSBA activities. Prior to her election to the board of education in 2011, she served in a variety of community volunteer roles, including president of the Woodland Elementary School PTO.

A 1988 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Ms. Cline is employed as a physical therapist assistant at Kindred Hospital on the Ohio Health MedCentral Mansfield campus.

The Spanish Immersion School is one of 98 schools statewide designated as a School of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education. The school was No. 47 among 3,311 Ohio schools on the list of performance index scores on the 2014 state report card.

Starting with an initial kindergarten class of 11 in the fall of 2007 the Spanish Immersion School has added one grade each year. It now has an enrollment of 150 in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The OSBA Central Region spring conference will be at the Villa Milano on Schrock Road. Dr. Kathy Krendl, president of Otterbein University, will be the keynote speaker.
