Kindergarten registration for 2016-17 continues

Mansfield City Schools continues to register children who will attend kindergarten at Prospect, Sherman and Woodland elementary schools for 2016-17.

Applications also are being accepted for two inaugural kindergarten classes at Springmill STEM Elementary and kindergarten at the Spanish Immersion School.

Kindergarten registration may be completed by visiting the Raemelton administration building, 856 W. Cook Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1 are eligible.

Anyone registering a child must bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security number and proof of residency, such as U.S. mail, a utility bill or rental agreement. If applicable, legal documents relating to custody or guardianship must be provided, including a divorce decree naming residential parent for school purposes, and IEP and ETR if the child is receiving special education services.

Starting Aug. 1 registration also may be completed at the child’s home school. For more information contact the district’s State and Federal Programs Office at 419-525-6400, ext. 56440.

Springmill STEM Elementary will have two kindergarten classes of 20 students each. STEM means that while students will be taught the same Ohio learning standards as those in the other elementary schools, there will be an emphasis on integrated science, technology, engineering and math concepts designed for elementary-age children.

Next year the kindergarteners will advance to first grade at Springmill and a new group of students will enroll in kindergarten. This method will continue until Springmill is a K-3 school.

At the Spanish Immersion School, now a K-6 building, kindergarten students will begin the process of being immersed in Spanish; that is, they will learn the standard elementary core subjects while hearing and speaking Spanish. Application to the Spanish Immersion School is open to all, including out-of-district students.

All questions may be directed to the State and Federal Programs office.
