Gavin wins Third Grade Spelling Bee

Gavin of Mansfield City Schools' Spanish Immersion won Thursday’s second annual Third Grade Spelling Bee, sponsored by Mansfield City Schools and North Central State College.
 

One hundred and twenty-two students were registered for the bee at Mansfield Senior High School.

Participating schools included Sherman Elementary, Spanish Immersion School, St. Peter’s, Foundation Academy, Woodland Elementary, Prospect Elementary, Madison South Elementary, St. Mary’s Parish/School, Mansfield Seventh-Day Adventist Christian School, Mifflin Elementary and Eastview Elementary.

 

The bee began with a 2 p.m. program in the auditorium. Sam J. Dunn III served as master of ceremonies.      

Judges were retired Judge Jeff Payton of Mansfield Municipal Court; Judge Heather Cockley of Domestic Relations Court; Renee Bessick, retired Mansfield City Schools principal; Jean Ruark, communications coordinator, Mansfield/Richland County Public Library, and Carmen Egner, Mansfield City Schools teacher. 

Linda Burrage is coordinator of the bee.
