Mansfield Senior High School celebrated its annual Class Day Thursday afternoon, setting the stage for Saturday’s 10:30 a.m. commencement in Pete Henry Gym.

The Class of 2017 – numbering 168 on the list of graduates approved by the board of education this week – was attired in caps and gowns as a multitude of scholarship awards were presented. A class total is expected to be announced on Saturday.

Families, friends and faculty applauded the graduates as individual scholarship representatives announced their awards. Garverick, board of education president Renda Cline and board member Sheryl Weber joined Principal Dr. Jose Hernandez on the stage.

Earlier on Thursday several of the graduates continued a tradition started last year by parading through the halls of Malabar Intermediate School, the Spanish Immersion School and Prospect, Woodland and Sherman elementary schools. In each building students lined the halls to cheer and slap hands with the Class of 2017.

Saturday’s commencement program will feature a welcome by Olta Toska, president of the Class of 2017, and a vocal performance by Grayson Antreassian and Anita Adkins.

Valedictorian Anastasia Axiopoulou and salutatorian Gabrielle Swoope will speak.
