Mansfield City Schools Board Votes to Relocate Spanish Immersion School

At its December 19 meeting, the Mansfield City Schools Board of Education authorized the abandonment of the Brinkerhoff Elementary Building during the summer of 2024. This decision aims to maximize the use of district assets and taxpayer dollars.

The move sets off a chain reaction of exciting transitions for the district. Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, the following changes will take effect:

  • All Spanish Immersion grade K-8 students will find their new home in the Woodland Elementary building.

  • Sherman Elementary will serve as the district's PreK-2 attendance area school.

    • All preschool students will continue to attend Sherman Elementary.

    • Families of incoming kindergarteners will attend Sherman Elementary or may apply to one of the district's three magnet schools: Spanish Immersion, Springmill STEM or Tyger Digital Academy.

    • Current Woodland Elementary kindergarteners and first graders will attend Sherman Elementary or can apply to Springmill STEM.

    • Current Woodland Elementary second graders will go to Malabar Intermediate, the district’s attendance area school for grades 3-6, or can apply to Springmill STEM.

The Brinkerhoff building has played an integral role in realizing Mansfield City Schools’ vision as the premier learning destination of Richland County. To commemorate the school’s legacy, the district will host an open house in May, providing an opportunity for the community to celebrate and reflect. Further details will be announced this spring.

Mansfield City Schools Superintendent Stan Jefferson said, "Our district remains unwavering in our commitment to delivering the highest quality educational opportunities to our students. These changes reflect our dedication to providing a more cohesive educational experience for students and demonstrate our commitment to prudent financial management, ensuring a thriving school community."
